The Great MN Get Together!

Wednesday August 28th we decided to head out to the MN State Fair with the Sherman family.  It was supposed to be hot & humid so we got there about 8:30 and beat the heat with lots of water, fans, and spray bottles.  We started out with the MN Little Farm Hands before it go too busy

Due to Mila's dairy sensitivity, I was not able to try a lot of the foods I would have liked but we still ended up with some goodies :)  Hudson was all about trying the food.  He had an australian battered potato, snow cone, part of a corn dog, fresh fruit, and a kids chicken meal.

Of course we had to end the day on Machinery Hill, checking out all of the "dirts" and tractors.

Sister was a trooper.  We kept her cool with a little portable fan which was great!

Looking forward to next year and making my list of new foods to try :)

Beating the heat & humidity

Friday August 16th we headed over to the Northfield pool after nap to cool off :)  Hudson has gotten so much more comfortable in the water between swimming lessons and just going to the pool.  This time he made me a little nervous as he went out into the big pool until it was up to his chin and instead of being nervous about it, he was laughing!

Rachel, Brian, and Josie also came to join us for an evening of swimming.  Such a fun night!  Looking forward to taking both kids again next summer :)

Wow, I am a little behind on the blogging.  Guess that's what happens when you are busy with two kiddos :)

2 weeks!

It's hard to believe it has already been 2 weeks since Mila was born.  I have already noticed some changes in her appearance since we brought her home :)

So far we are all adjusting well to life as a family of 4.  The first couple nights home were rough as Mila's sleep patterns were a little off but the last couple nights she has been sleeping fairly well, waking about every 3-4 hours to feed.  She is like her brother in that she does not like her arms swaddled, needs to have them above her head when she sleeps.  Her usual schedule during the day is to eat about every 2 hours and then sleep :)  Lately though she likes to sleep on mom instead of being put down. 

We have her newborn pictures scheduled for tomorrow so hopefully baby girl cooperates :)  Here are a few photos that we took ourselves within the first week.

Proud Big Brother

I was a little worried on how Hudson would adjust to his new role as big brother but so far he has been amazing with Mila.  He absolutely loves his little sister and is always concerned about where she is and what she is doing. He was a little hesitant about holding her the first day but Tuesday he was ready :)

Mila Grace Weingartz arrived on Monday July 29, 2013 at 9:14 AM, weighing 7 lbs 6 oz, 19 inches long!

What a difference this delivery was for myself.  With Hudson there was complications so a C-section was performed, however, since I did not have an epidural I had to be put under general anesthesia.  I don't recall anything until about 3 hours after he was born.

This time around the staff at Mayo Clinic made sure her delivery was much more memorable.  I did need to have another C-section but this one was scheduled and everything went very smoothly.  

Since she was born early Monday morning, Hudson was able to come down and see his baby sister for the first time.  When he woke up Monday morning he told Nana "I see baby sister".

We had all sorts of visitors Monday and Tuesday which made the hospital stay a little better :)  Baby sister did not have a name for two days but finally we decided on her name Wednesday morning.  Luckily we were able to go home Wednesday morning vs. Thursday morning as both Mila & myself were recovering well. Now we are adjusting to life as a family of 4 :)

She's stolen our hearts! <3

Celebrating 'Merica - 4th of July weekend

For the Fourth of July celebration, tradition in the Flategraff family for the past 20+ years has been to head up to Alexandria and celebrate with the Germscheid family.  This year with baby girls' due date being only 4 weeks away, I did not feel comfortable being 6+ hours away from Mayo Clinic so our family decided to celebrate here in town.

We started out the celebration on Thursday July 4th with the Cannon Falls Parade.  The parade was actually really good, lasting just over an hour, and baby boy was loving it as there were SO many fire trucks and tractors!

We spent the rest of the afternoon at our house playing with our water toys and water balloons courtesy of the neighbor's.  From our house we were also able to see numerous firework displays :)

We also spent some of the weekend at the Northfield pool as it was SO hot & humid.  Hudson definitely enjoyed himself and was having a lot of fun with the water geysers.

  

Overall it was a fun weekend here in town though we did miss being up north.  Hopefully next year we can rejoin the celebration of 'merica with the rest of the group :)
